What is the best laptop in terms of longevity and durability?

IBM Thinkpads and Sony Vaios are both excellent quality laptops. I would avoid Dells, HPs and eMachines.
Toshiba, in my opinion, is one of the best. Sony and IBM also make good machines. I would avoid anything made by Compaq and HP; they are shoddy in terms of componentry and workmanship.
Will dell is out of the question. Do not get a Gateway or a Hp. I say a mac would be the best.
The top two laptops in reliability are, and have been for quite a while, IBM/Lenovo and Apple. Anyone who said Dell must be related to Michael Dell as the companies stock is taking a beating lately due to poor quality and reliability. Dell also expects an 80% failure rate of all their systems in year three (I purchase systems for my company, and I was told this by the major accounts rep from Dell, as we were scheduling the recall on system board replacements for our desktops). Here are two links that support my argument. The second link, sort by editors choice, you will notice that nothing but IBM and Apple show up at the top of the list, and five of the top eight are IBM systems.
My 1998 model powerbook g3 is still hanging in there going on as good or better than ever. I vote APPLE.
